Human Resource Strategy: A Review of the Literature Alyise Johnson University of Maryland University College April 27, 2015 Introduction Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) can be defined as the linking of human resources with strategic goals and objectives in order to improve business performance and develop organizational culture that fosters innovation, flexibility and competitive advantages. It is an approach to the development and implementation of Human Resource (HR) strategies that are integrated with business strategies and enable the organization to achieve its goals (Armstrong, 2000). For most organizations, HR is responsible for the recruitment and selection of personnel. Organizations often depend on their HR department to ascertain the appropriate talent to man available positions and clearly define the responsibilities of those positions, but are not limited to those standards. It is important that a company or organization maintain SHRM in order to address the wide range of organizational issues as they pertain to the many factors of managing human capital and getting the job done. Genocide is one of the most frightening terms one could hear, sending shivers down your spine just to hear the word. Genocide is the intent of extermination of a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. One of the best known Genocide’s to the world is known as the Holocaust. Germans exterminated over 6 million Jews in just a couple of years. Families were torn apart, and some of the worst things you could ever do to a human being were done in these times. After the Holocaust everyone said Never Again, but it has happened over and over. If we follow the steps to preventing genocides, we can stop history from repeating itself and keep the people of the world safe. Imagine being forced from your home in the middle of the night without warning, shoved into a small cattle car with 100’s of other people for days, then arriving at a port. Your only comfort left is your family, then your husband and sons are ripped away from you and pushed into a separate line while you and your daughter are forced into the line assigned to the â€Å"shower†, you’re ordered to strip and are given soap then herded into the shower, watching the door lock behind you. Confused murmurs brake out as everyone watches the shower heads expecting the water to come but it doesn’t, then you smell it; it is gas being pumped into the chamber and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. You are in this shower made into a gas chamber surrounded by strangers, feeling the fear and pain overtake your body and panic seizing your mind. You look down into the eyes of your daughter and see your panic mirrored in them and do your best to comfort her as you wait for the death that you know is coming to take you both. Raymond Carver with Cathedral and John Updike with AP

Raymond Carver with â€Å"Cathedral† and John Updike with â€Å"AP† â€Å"Cathedral† and AP both short stories written during the same century. But even though they both introduce stereotypical characters that somehow change their view of the world, they have many more different aspects. The stories differ in atmosphere and the quantity of people involve in each story. The story â€Å"Cathedral† only took place in a family house with only the husband, wife who can be qualified as a static character tried to kill herself in the past, and finally the blind man. Unlike in the short story â€Å"AP† the event took place in a grocery store with Sammy, the three girls and finally the manager who is also a static character, nothing special with him, just the typical†¦show more content†¦But I heard nothing of the sort† (Raymond Carver 77), unlike Sammy’s only thoughts were based on the girls appearance. In contrary of the two stories, the blind man (Robert) engages pretty deeply with the husband, what the narrator qualified as â€Å"weird† (Raymond Carver 77) in â€Å"Cathedral† ,what Sammy missed to do with the girls that apparently he was quit interested in seeing that he based his whole focus on them and only them. The blind man probably noticed the way the husband sees things, that’s why he engaged in all these activity with him. They drank and smoked together until the wife comes in and kind of interrupt them for a while but eventually she fell asleep, as in â€Å"AP† when the girls finally came to check out with Sammy, the manager Mr. Lengel comes and disturbed Sammy’s job, he is the manager at some point he had to do his job and keep the store running normally â€Å"Lengel comes in from haggling with a truck of cabbages on the lot and is about to scuttle into that door marked MANAGER†¦ He comes over and says, â€Å"Girls, this isn’t the beach† (John Updike 14). The other tool that was based on the disagreements tolerance, therein I have scored 50 that are also moderate in nature and it will require some improvements in these areas.
